Healthy Diet?

I didn’t know what to write about and I really felt like posting something after being away for a while so I taught of writing down the details of my (hopefully-but-I-know-it’s-not-that-good) healthy lifestyle:
(Please take into consideration that my aim is to neither lose nor gain weight but to preserve a healthy body)

Sports
Mainly my sports interests expand to much more than my routine sports activity. However here’s what I do:

a- I play tennis and table tennis five times a week for about 1:30 – 2 hours daily.

b- I go swimming once, rarely twice a week.

Diet
Starting October 2004, I have acquired slowly each of these rules into my diet, adding a new one from time to time, until I reached this food-style:

a- No Sodas what-so-ever, just juice.

b- Burgle-wheat instead of white rice.

c- Whole-wheat bread instead of white.

d- Baked or poached potato instead of French fries.

e- Lots of grills & much less fries.

f- More salads.

g- I have 3 average-to-small meals a day and 2 snacks as a minimum. Last meal should be around 7:30 pm, last snack should be around 9:30 pm taking into consideration that I’m a late sleeper. I do not sleep earlier than 12 am each day.

h- My snack consists of either a handful of roasted peanuts mainly or potato chips rarely, three pieces of chocolate = half a bar mainly or an equal amount of candy rarely. Very rarely I might have something else whenever available.

i- I allow myself one heavy meal a week consisting of one of these items: junk food, greasy cooking, rice, white bread, spaghetti, etc.

j- I drink daily a bottle = 1.5 liters of water when I wake up in the morning before having anything else. And another 1.5 liters spread out during the remainder of the day.

Bad Habits
Here’s the part of my diet which I’m not so proud of:

a- I have about 3-4 coffees a day. (trying hard to lessen the quantity)

b- I smoke about 13-14 cigs a day. (trying hard to lessen the quantity and eventually quit)

c- I do not drink. (never was fond of it originally)

d- I never had any kind of drugs. (never had the curiosity to try it)

That’s mainly my daily routine. I’ve really given a lot of effort to reach what I have. However, I wrote it down in hopes that you guys can share your life-style with me and maybe give me some tips of new ways to preserve a healthier routine.

We all need to preserve our bodies as well as our minds, so go ahead: share the knowledge for a healthier lifestyle for all of us.

Hmmm...
Sounds like you have a healthy lifestyle for the most part...except the cigs. That's gotta be tough.

My lifestyle is pretty sedentary during the day, so I try to go for a run every other night. Eating wise I hate fat, love anything fresh, fruit, vegetables, dairy, and most meat. Juice and shakes are my favorite.
I'm w/you on the roasted peanuts- they rock!

hey girly.. cool lifestyle..
I wish I could be that healthy.. I like salads and fresh food and all that, but it's just that I crave a lot junk food.. (the most essential part that keeps me going trough every week in this diet of mine is that I know that mainly on saturday's lunch I'll be junking ;)
As for the peanuts.. If u like nuts, then u should really try the Ghanaian Roasted Red Peanuts.. simply Amaaaaaaazing.. :)
By the way, where's everyone else.. I checked their blogspots and everything seemed to be the same since more than a month now..
Keep in touch Erin..
Ciao ciao..
PS: thanks for the support :)

Hey there! I am sorry I haven't stopped by in a while. I was supper busy, then gone, then busy again and now things are starting to get back into some sort of routine.

So about the lifestyle question...well I must admit over the summer I had to stop ice skating for lack of time but that will be resuming very soon. Instead I tried to get in a fair amount of hiking this summer which I managed and that was good. Other than that I must say my weakest area is probably the excercise one. I have also done a lot of gardening and outdoor work which I much prefer to exercise for the sake of exercise. I tried the whole gym membership thing and it just didn't work for me. I am too used to working outdoors and seeing something for my activity, not just sweating with a bunch of strangers in a building.
The diet changes that you have made sound pretty good. Especially the switch to whole grains which is truely vital to good health combined with lots of fresh things. And of course you know you need to ditch the cancer sticks! But I know that it easier said than done. The coffee is not good either. robs your body of so many things, caffine in general is bad news. I am very glad to hear that you don't do other drugs or drink alcohol because the alcohol, espcially is awful. Not sure why anyone would want to take something into their body that kills brain cells on contact.

Personally I am a bit straight laced I suppose somewould say. I am vegitarian, don't drink alcohol, coffee or pop (pop once in a great while, like twice a year or when I fly I get ginger ale). I don't eat chocolate or much candy and I try to stay away from a lot of white processed foods, though I do eat crackers and pasta but I try to buy the healthy varieties of those as well. When I shop for food and I read the lables. If it has too many ingredients that I can't read or a huge variety of ingredients that I know are not needed for the product I will leave it on the shelf. Probably my biggest downfall is awesome homemade icecream that my mom makes though she makes it lowfat and very healthy so I hope it's not too horrible!

hey crystal..
It's been a while, it's true.. I hope you wouldn't be leaving anytime soon again...
Thanks a lot for your comment.. You really did take your time...
I'm really impressed by your diet.. However, as for ice cream and chocolate.. These 2 are an addiction to me.. I try my best to fit them into my diet but with very small portions but I can never ever not even for a day not eat one of them.. So I understand your crave :)
Keep in Touch...
